Important Information

For over 28 years, All Star has been committed to keeping our roads safe offering state-certified Driver Education classes for teens and adults across the midwest.

Parent-Taught Driver Education is an online course that helps students acquire the essential knowledge to be safe drivers from the comfort of your home. This course will require a licensed parent to complete the behind-the-wheel training.

Our 100% Texas state-approved course fulfills the state’s requirements for your student’s drivers education, will help your student obtain their Learner’s License, and will prepare your student to take their Road Test with confidence. Don’t worry about rearranging your schedule or taking time off of work or school because our full 32-Hour Online Classroom curriculum is provided from the convenience of your own home. With the Parent Taught course, even the 44 Hours of Behind the Wheel Driving can be done at your own leisure (once your student receives their Learner’s License). For more information about how our Parent Taught course works, please continue reading, or feel free to call our corporate office during regular business hours, and we would be glad to walk you through the process.

We also proudly offer the Texas Class C Exam which will take the place of the permit test that your student would usually take at the DPS when applying for their Learner’s License. Register today and let All Star take the stress out of driver’s education for your whole family! With all of the benefits of taking the Texas Parent-Taught Online Driver Education course, it’s no surprise that so many students are now choosing All Star from their driver’s training!

Getting signed up is as easy as clicking the “Register Now” button, and completing the full registration. Please have your payment ready with a Mastercard, Visa or Discover, and our program will walk you through the process. As soon as the registration has been completed and the course has been paid in full, you will have full access to your course! As soon as your student completes the First Module and the Class C exam, they will be issued an Enrollment Certificate. This is the certificate that you will take to the DPS to apply for your students Learner’s License.

Once your student has their Learner’s License, they will be able to start their driving with their parent/guardian. The Behind the Wheel required will include;
  • 7 Hours of “Behind the Wheel” in-car instruction
  • 7 Hours of “Observation” driving time
  • You can find BOTH of these Drive Logs in your Parent Taught Program Guide from the DPS, but just in case, you can find another copy of the forms here. Keep in mind, we will require a copy of both forms in order to issue the Final Completion Certificate (DE-964) later on. 30 Hours of Additional Driving Time (10 of which should be at night)
Click here for the 30-hour Behind-the-Wheel Guide!

Your student will be able to simultaneously work on the course and the driving, as long as they are staying with the 2-hour per day limit set in place by the state of Texas. Once the full course has been completed, AND the full 44 hours of driving has been completed, you can then request for the Final Completion Certificate (DE-964). This will be the final certificate that your student will take to the DPS on the day of their scheduled Road Test.

Texas Parent-Taught FAQ’s

You must request state approval to participate in Parent-Taught Driver Education by completing an application. Once you have been approved, you will receive a Parent Taught Driver Ed Program Guide which includes the forms and information you need. The initial step prior to enrolling with All Star is to verify both parent and student eligibility for the program.  This step must be completed prior to enrolling with All Star. The state’s website allows you to check the status of your request for the Parent-Taught Driver Education Program Guide.

The parent taught program is complex and requires parents to work with multiple entities. The Parent-Taught Driver Education course consists of a minimum of 32 hours of classroom instruction, 7 hours of in-car observation, 7 hours of behind the wheel supervised instruction, and 30 additional hours of behind the wheel instruction.  Before beginning a parent taught course, thoroughly read all webpages to avoid unnecessary costs, delays, or invalidated training hours.

Texas Parent-Taught Driver Education is for students who live in the state who are age 14 to 17. If you’re 18 or older, you can take Texas Online Adult Driver Education; 6-hour driving course for adults.

  • The program consists of 32 hours of online instruction which is required by the state to be eligible for the road test.
  • As part of the course, you have the option to take the Class C Exam (written knowledge test) within the program rather than at the DPS. The knowledge test will be waived if it was completed during the Driver Education course. This must be completed after completing Module 2 and must be completed prior to taking the final exam.
  • A road test is required to be eligible for your license.

It is equivalent to the permit test taken through the DPS when applying for your Learner’s License. It is a prerequisite to be completed at any time before receiving your Certificate of Enrollment.

No refunds are issued after the start of class. All other approved refunds are subject to a $5 processing fee, can take up to 10 business days, are credited back to the card on which they were purchased and are issued only to the person who paid for the program.
